Mike Weaver is a doctoral graduate of the University of South Carolina Norman J. Arnold School of Public Health. He recently served as Research Assistant Professor at Morehouse College and Adjunct Faculty with Morehouse School of Medicine. He has extensive experience in the field of nonprofit administration and community health. He is from Aiken, South Carolina and attended Morehouse College. While a student at Morehouse, he founded and organized the Atlanta University Center Volunteer Task Force, an organization providing an opportunity for students to volunteer in the local community. Upon graduating in 1991, he continued his education at the University Of South Carolina School Of Public Health, receiving a Master of Public Health in 1992.

In 2002, Dr. Mike returned to the University of South Carolina to pursue his doctorate in Public Health concentrating in Health Promotion, Education and Behavior. His coursework focused on HIV/AIDS, physical activity and the African American community. The first article he published in a peer-reviewed journal compared physical activity and CVD among African Americans and Caucasians in South Carolina. His dissertation examined the HIV/AIDS risk perceptions among heterosexual African American men and their female sex partners.

Dr. Mike began his professional career working as Program Coordinator for the Morehouse School of Medicine. In this capacity he implemented community health protocol by providing training and technical assistance to rural counties throughout Georgia. He assisted in the formulation of new coalition boards, the development of ATOD curriculum materials, and the on-going evaluation of community coalitions. He continued his professional development by working as Director of Community Development at United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. As director, he assisted major corporations in raising over $7 million from their employees, secured monies for a local housing initiative, monitored local and state legislative issues, and worked with community volunteer committees. While at United Way he became a Lyndhurst Fellow and created a health education program for teenagers: Teaching Adolescents to Rethink Getting Education Towards (T.A.R.G.E.T.) Prevention. He recruited, employed and placed teenagers as Peer Health Educators within school systems throughout metropolitan Atlanta.

Dr. Mike then became the Executive Director for Community Affairs Ministering Programs. He established relationships with the philanthropic community and received grants to support the mission of affordable housing. He negotiated a partnership with a major financial institution to provide equity infusion for community redevelopment efforts in southwest Atlanta.

Dr. Mike has been married for thirteen years to Yolanda, an educator in the Atlanta public schools. They have three sons, Malachi, Noah and Solomon. He is an exercise enthusiast who also enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures, creative writing, gardening and listening to his sons play piano.
