His name is Michael Simmons and he’s been like a little brother for nearly twenty-five years. I encouraged him not only to get a Bachelor’s, but also graduate degrees. He received his undergraduate from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Urban Planning from Old Dominion University and is currently working on his Doctorate at the University of New Orleans. Remember, mentoring relationships are life-long. The picture to the right was taken as we were “getting on the bus”. (Update: After Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Michael and his new wife started anew as he transferred to a doctoral program at Rutgers University in New Jersey.)
