More Words from Dr. Mike…
I take mentoring seriously. There are those who mistake volunteering and role modeling for mentoring. I detail the intricate nuances between the three when presenting mentoring workshops. Being a mentor is not some short-term assignment. Mentoring relationships with young people are built in hopes of those relationships lasting a lifetime. I’ve celebrated their joys and grieved their sorrows. They have done the same for me. Therefore, I encourage you to take mentoring seriously as I have done. And if your organization needs a consultant to provide a training session on mentoring or volunteering, feel free to call upon Dr. Mike Seminars.

Now, you may be wondering what has happened to some of the young men I’ve mentored over the years. I have remained in contact with many of them, while others have gone their various ways. Regarding the Bridge Builder article, Berry McWilson and I talk on a weekly basis. Berry comes to our home for a game of billiards every few weeks. Antrell Jones is recently wedded; therefore we don’t talk as often. The three of us are in the pictures you see here (1989 pictured left and 2004 pictured right).

Regarding the Committed to Community article, the two young male teens pictured are Muzik McClinton and Marceo Almond from the Capitol Homes public housing projects. As an update, Muzik recently graduated from Georgia State University and Marceo has been enlisted in the United States Navy for five years.

A sample agenda and handouts from Mentoring workshops I’ve conducted are listed below:
